This series is all about me setting up my own mainframe! I want to learn everything I can about mainframes just because I’m that one nerd that does. I can’t help it really. The mainframe I’m using in this series is the MVS 3.8j Tur(n)key 4- System emulated using the Hercules emulator.
I have setup the same system on my iMac and access with Vista TN3270 from Windows 10. I used to program COBOL back in the late 90’s in college. Never got a job programming COBOL so, I am trying to re-learn all of this stuff after 20 years of forgetting. This system reminds me of the mainframe we had at school but a lot of it is different. Moving around and in the RFE editor is very familar. We used to use an editor called SPFPC that ran on DOS back in the days of Windows95. This system is a lot faster than the school system too! hahahaha.
