IBM MTM 2018: Final Words

Hello again!

It’s been a month and a few days since I’ve spoken to you, my love. Have you missed me? On a more serious note, I felt that I could not start a new blog series without having closure. I’ve started this series of IBM’s Master the Mainframe 2018 contest on september 11th 2018 and now officially finished it 22nd of january 2019.

Here it is,Β the badge. W-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-h!

Thank you all!

I wish to thank all few thousands of visitors! Do you see that one last spike? That’s the last day the MTM contest was open, the 31st of december. A total of 440 visitors panicked and checked my website. We cried, laughed, had fun but we got all our work done. Each comment fueled my will to write blogposts and I would also like to thank all viagra and credit card loan spam bots to give me the illusion of 50 new comments per day!

Master the Mainframe 2019

Mr. Paul Newton told us that we’re going to work with Zowe’s open mainframe project. Get started atΒ https://zowe.org/home/.

Zowe is a new open source software framework that provides solutions that allow development and
operations teams to securely, manage, control, script and develop on the Mainframe like any
other cloud platform. Zowe is the first open source project based on z/OS.

I’m very curious about what they’ll come up with in 2019. In the meantime, it might be time to explore Zowe?

What am I going to learn next?

What about you?

What are you going to study? Did you get the badge?

  1. Hi Kevin,
    Not far at all πŸ˜‰
Yes I will go too to the MTM2019!
I began an approach to Zowe but seems to be kind of difficult to understand what they want to achieve! Therefore I will wait to read in your blog!!
I’m a financial director, you see, nothing to do with IBM/Z, my interest is a kind of bohemian old remembering).
    See you around
    Kind regards
    Georges

  2. Hi Kevin,
Nice website you have here! full of mainframish things! I have participated too in the MTM2018 for France(I’m the only one there!). I loved it! Easy to follow and challenging sometimes.
I’m an old cobol/rpg developer in AS/400 (now IBM i: bigger than a PC and less than a mainframe, they was called “mini” in the late 70’s). I see you found a possible server account for a mainframe. I tell you that because the account we have from the MTM challenge is still usable to continue to learn new things, but is limited for some stuffs like CICS, REXX with DB2, etc. You go forward in this way?
    Bye for now!

    1. Bonjour Georges!

France huh, we are not that far away from each other πŸ™‚

That is correct! I will use my IBM z/OS account to learn about the newer mainframe technologies. But at the moment, I’m more interested in running my own MVS 3.8j and the My Own Mainframe series that comes with it.

Aside from that, I am also very interested in master the mainframe 2019 and the openmainframe project by Zowe. I’ll blog about all of that too! (I hope to see you there too!)

If I may ask, what is your current occupation?

      Kind regards
      -Kevin
